The Mayo Part

Hi Kate, im James and from Mayo. Can only talk about there as i know it. There’s a lovely greenway from Westport - Achill aprox 44km long. Nice, safe and away from traffic. Can wild camp along the way i imagine. Plenty of beaches along Mayo aswell. Depending on the time of year the weather could help or hamper you. And if camping i’d aim for Gaa or soccer pitches. They usually have a stand and sheltered shouldn’t be a problem imo. Good luck with it.

Mizen to Malin and Belfast to Derry routes

Hi Kathy!
Now living in South Wales but I am originally from Belfast and I know the Donegal sections particularly well, although I wasn't cycling in those days.
I can share with you activity strava links for a trip I did 5 years ago. We started off the train at cork and rode to Clonakilty and then on to Mizen Head and continued via sections of the the Wild Atlantic way to Malin Head in the North (but missing some of the big headlands particularly in te South West) and then on to Londerrry to get a train to Belfast. I also have a route we followed on a separate trip from Bangor through Belfast and up to Donegal via Derry so you could link these together. We were riding road bikes on both trips and some of the roads might be considered busier than would be ideal for cycle touring but Ireland is short of really good cycle paths.

Some of these are links to my Strava Activities as I deleted the original routes files once I'd done them. You may need a Strava account to access these but if you have any problems don't hesitate to ask as I could probably email you the raw gpx files which you could import into another mapping tool.

Infact I can strongly recommend you include more of the coast (via Carrigart and PortSalon) on this stage than we did if you have time and don't mind a bit of climbing!

Route files for Belfast to Londonderry which you would need to reverse (Ride with GPS Should allow you to do this)
https://www.strava.com/routes/13530629 I started in Belfast Outskirts and rode the very long way round, to Belfast so you can ignore that bit, although if you were flying Out of Belfast City airport the route along the shore might be useful.

https://www.strava.com/routes/11803930 took us to the Bruncrana-Rathmullan ferry (possibly also summer only) and links up with the last day of the Mizen-Malin trip

I would be happy to help with re-arranging the routes to suit you if that helps.
